Sanford Contractors Launches 2025 Summer Programs

Summer at Sanford Contractors brings more than just longer days and warmer weather—it marks the start of our student workforce development programs.
Recently, we launched our third annual Construction Academy and welcomed a new class of college interns, continuing our commitment to building strong futures in the construction industry.
On May 12, we welcomed five college interns representing North Carolina State University, East Carolina University, Central Carolina Community College, and our first intern from Appalachian State University. Interns joined leadership for a meet and greet breakfast before beginning their roles across our Site, Building, and Utility Divisions.
On May 14, a signing celebration was held at the K. Mark Oldham Training Center to mark the official start of the Construction Academy. Students completed enrollment paperwork with Central Carolina Community College (CCCC), met the Sanford Contractors team, and celebrated with family and community partners.
The Construction Academy is a nine-week, paid pre-apprenticeship program offered in partnership with CCCC, Lee County Schools, and the North Carolina Community College System. The 2025 cohort includes 12 students from six local high schools. Participants will earn credit for two continuing education courses through CCCC and gain real-world experience in both classroom and jobsite settings, all while earning a competitive wage.
Throughout the summer, Construction Academy students will work alongside experienced teams across our Site, Building, Bridge, Support Services, and Utility Divisions, supporting active projects and building the skills needed for a successful career in construction.
SCI’s Commitment to Workforce Development
At Sanford Contractors, we believe investing in young talent strengthens not only our company but also the communities we serve and the future of our industry.
