Ian Scott: An SCI Success Story

Meet Ian Scott, Vice President of our Site Division.
Ian joined the SCI team in 1991 as a laborer. Throughout his remarkable 34-year career, he has excelled in various roles including Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, Assistant Vice President, and was promoted to his current role in 2010. Ian leads SCI’s largest division – Site Development, illustrating his exceptional leadership and expertise.
Dedication and a strong commitment to teamwork have been key to his success. “Everything we do is a team effort,” he says. His ability to mentor and guide his team is notable, with colleagues describing him as supportive and approachable. Ian ensures his team has the tools they need to succeed, fostering an open and communicative environment.
For Ian, the most rewarding aspect of his role is the opportunity to build projects that benefit the public. “Looking back at what we’ve built is rewarding, but seeing the public benefit from our work, whether it be a new school, section of road, or a development for people to call home, is rewarding as well.”
His favorite project so far is the McLendon Creek Dam, completed in the early 2000s. “It was the tallest high hazard dam in North Carolina at the time, almost 100 feet tall and impounded over 100 acres of water. It had many intricate features that were different from our usual projects, and I learned a lot about dam construction.”
Reflecting on his time at SCI, Ian is proud of the opportunities he’s had to work with many wonderful teammates to produce some of the best projects in the industry. “It is a privilege and something I am very thankful to be a part of. I was inspired by those who came before me, and I hope to inspire others along the way.”
Ian’s advice for those considering the construction industry: “If you are driven by the satisfaction of a job well done and take pride in the effort it takes to achieve it, the construction industry offers limitless opportunities.”
